Introducing: Root16, taking orchids back to the roots

Everyone loves orchids for their subtle, colourful and delicate beauty. But did you know there’s more beauty hidden underneath the soil? It’s time to go back to the roots. In their native habitat, Phalaenopsis orchids grow from trees high above the tropical forest floor, clinging to the branches with beautiful intricate roots.

Together with Leerdam Orchids, we find a way to bring this airborne orchid to our customers in Europe. Meet the Root16 Phalaenopsis: a unique and strong orchid with an intricate and extensive root system, grown specifically to survive outside of the standard plant pot.

"We saw people removing regular orchids from their pots to be able to admire the roots, but doing that damages the roots. We tested our orchids for six months, trying to find a way to grow more and stronger roots," Jeffrey van den Berghen, Noviflora orchid expert, explains.

"These guys are grown in a natural way, in a humid environment with all the space and freedom they need to develop their roots. Thanks to this growing method, the Root16 orchids are strong enough to survive as an air plant or in a glass vase, so you can admire their beautiful roots!"

The Root16 orchids were cultivated to have more roots, and can easily flourish in a glass vase or hanging from the ceiling, making it the best looking new addition to the air plant family.

They might look delicate, but these novel Phalaenopsis are easy to transport. Special packaging with an enclosed water pad provides sufficient humidity for a maximum of two weeks.
