Relaxing in luxury with 2019’s Balcony Plant of the Year

Just like the contemporary simple and zen trends, the bay laurel, named balcony plant of the year, is a relaxed, easy-going plant. The bay laurel reminds us of long summer nights on a small Greek Island or on the Turkish coast, and keeps his strong, green leaves all year round.

A plant for winners
Did you know the Bay laurel finds its origins in Iran and Iraq? The Romans brought the plant to Western Europe and spread it across the Mediterranean. Bay laurel used to be a symbol for courage and victory; winners of the Olympic Games used to be crowned with a laurel wreath. If you're a bit stressed, place a few bay laurel leaves on a plate and burn them. The scent released in the process helps calm the nerves.

Variations
Small, big, as a minimalist tree or wild shrub: the bay laurel is available in many shapes and sizes. As a shrub, the bay laurel can be shaped into a cube, cilinder, pyramide, or a ball. With just one or two bay laurels in a pot, you can create a happy, summery vibe, especially when combined with a terracotta pot, colourful outdoor carpet or some brightly-coloured chairs. The bay laurel is an easy green solution for a lovely, calming outdoor environment.
