Eggshell vases

On a lazy Sunday morning in spring, the breakfast table needs just two things: eggs to eat and beautiful flowers to enjoy. Combine these two treats and make beautifully dainty vases with eggshells in shades of porcelain.

You will need:

  • Different sizes of eggs (such as quail’s eggs and medium white eggs)
  • Delicate flowers such as gysophila, ranunculus, freesia and other dainty spring flowers
  • Attractive egg cups, an egg box and other attractive egg holders
  • Linen napkins

How to make it

Use a needle or egg pricker to make a small hole in the egg. Then, with the tip of a sharp knife, make the hole in the eggshell a bit larger, and catch the egg in a bowl. Bake the eggs later in a pan, make an omelet, or use them in a quiche.

Rinse out the eggshells thoroughly, then fill them with a little bit of water and place the flowers in the eggshells. Make sure the stems are not too long or too heavy.

Give the eggshell vases a romantic setting to show them off to their best advantage. Place them in a bamboo eggcup, a felt egg holder or group them loosely in a linen napkin. Or, keep the egg box and use it as a vase holder.
