Poetry with the stock flower

A soft breeze sweeps across an Eastern Mediterranean shoreline. Maybe it’s Greece, or Turkey, or an empty Cyprus, grass-covered dune. The breeze announces the coming of spring, with a soft scent getting stronger the closer you get.

Pastel-coloured, kelk-shaped flowers welcome you to a new season of hope, and love, and warmer days and balmy nights. It’s the Matthiola tickling your nose, drawing you into a world of colour, swinging back and forth in that sweet spring air. Eyes closed, bare feet, hands folded around a wild bouquet of grass and flowers. The Matthiola greeting everyone with its scent, painting the skies different shades of pastel. Can you smell it?
