Garden Orchid – evergreen colourfull Calanthe

Garden Orchid supplies strong hybrids of various species like Calanthe. This one is special for many reasons. The leaves of this variety remain green during the winter.

Of all existing Orchids, Calanthe has almost certain the biggest range of colours available. Certain varieties spread a nice, sweet coconut-like scent. Most Calanthe flower from April - June, but there are also varieties that flower in August – September.

The Calanthes in the Garden Orchid family originate from Japan. There are almost 200 varieties. The name is a combination of the Greek words Kalos (beautiful) and Anthos, which means flower.

Flowering period Mai – June.
Colours Yellow, pink, red, blue, green and white, there is a huge diversity of colours.
Height 35 – 50cm.
Temperatures -10°C.
Place in the garden Shaded, avoid direct sunlight.
Application In the garden or terrace pot.
Water Water regularly from April until September.
Extra Cut the old leaves with pliers after the winter (March). Protect plant / roots with thick layer of compost during severe frost.
