Garden Orchid - Pleione with spectacular flowers

Garden Orchid supplies strong hybrids of various species like Pleione with spectaculair flowers. Pleione is an orchid that grows from pseudo-bulbs, and has huge Cattleya-like flowers.

 Unlike the other winterhardy Orchids it is possible to keep this variety also as a houseplant. Like Daffodils or Tulips, after flowering Pleione can be planted in the garden. New bulbs will appear and will flower again during the next Spring. In the garden Pleione has an exceptional appearance and puts all other plants in the shade,

Pleione is a pseudobulb Orchid with spectacular flowers and originates from South-East Asia. The plant was first described in 1825 and was first called Epidendrum and then Coelogyne. Finally in 1903 the name Pleione shows up. This Orchid can, unlike other members of the Garden Orchid family, also be used as a houseplant.

Growth Summer green pseudobulb orchid.
Flowering period April – May.
Colours Pink, purple, wit, yellow, orange.
Height With flower ca. 20-25cm, with leaves ca. 40-45cm.
Temperatures -10°C.
Place Shady and somewhat sheltered place.
Application In the ground, but also in a terrace pot is fine.
Water Water as soon as the flower buds appear, humid, but not wet. No water in the winter.
Extra Can be used as house plant early in the season, plant in the garden in April. Protect plant / roots with thick layer of compost during severe frost.
